We know you are coming to Darkening of the Sun to witness a beautiful total solar eclipse and the magic & fun will not stop there. There will be enough activities and opportunities to learn & participate to fill your entire weekend with us at Darkening of the Sun. Below is a list of what we have planned thus far, please check back often as we will be adding more as the festival date draws nearer.

Live Music

The headliner of the weekend is the total eclipse, however we are also featuring local, regional, and national musical artists on our brand new stage. The stage will be alive from 12PM – 11PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Join us at the Bonfire Sessions for storytelling, acoustic music, and quiet meditations.

Live Art

We will feature multiple live artists from the St. Louis and the surrounding region. They will be scattered throughout the festival grounds painting and creating “live” during the event. If you’ve never seen the creation of a piece of artwork this will be your opportunity to witness as blank canvas get transformed into a stunning piece of artwork. If you like what you see, most of the artists will have their works for sale upon completion. Check back soon for a complete listing of our live artists.

Eclipse Observatory

At one of the highest points on the land there will be a special area designated for an unobscured view of the eclipse and a pristine view of the horizon. Each patron of Darkening of the Sun will receive a pair of glasses designed to safely view the eclipse – DO NOT try to view the eclipse with the naked eye OR without the proper type of glasses. Additionally, you are encouraged and welcomed to bring your own telescope OR take a view through ours which is 12’ long at 24” in diameter. Little Observers Area

Coordinated by Mama’s and Papa’s the Little Observers Area is a kid-friendly zone where parents can join their children for special activities specially designed and targeted for the children. There will be arts, crafts, nature walks, education opportunities, storytelling, and music specially designed for the children. Please note – all children in The Little Observers Area MUST be accompanied by their guardian – in short, this is not a babysitting service but rather it is an opportunity for parents to bond with their children at Darkening of the Sun. Check back soon for a schedule of activities in the Little Observers Area.
